DACA and its effects

After reading Why DACA Should Not Be Removed , I would like to say that I enjoyed and got a really good insight into this nationwide issue. I was able to read and educate myself on the process of the renewal process. I was not aware of the cost or the actual lengthy steps a DACA recipient has to go through in order to renew their permit.  I was always a supporter due to my older sister being a DACA recipient. I believe more should be done to help the dreamers and their families. These are young people who have the dream to go to college and live in the United States. It was nice reading about how this permit allows people to better themselves, especially by hearing the first-hand experience of Alejandra. In this blog I was able to realize the importance it has on society and the impact dreamers have on the United States as a whole.  T oo many people may be overseeing this issue and have not come to the realization as I did. As Alejandra said, these are people who have not commi

Gerrymandering In Austin

Living in Austin I have seen this city grow into what it is now. I have experienced gerrymandering through my friends and the stories of other Austinites as well. Gerrymandering is when US policies manipulate the division of districts, cities, states, etc., this is something that directly affects those that are forced to move from their homes due to several factors. Some of these factors include raising property taxes, "cracking" or "packing". This has become a national issue because it affects millions of residents all over the country, In Austin, there have been so many cases in which Gerrymandering forced people to lose their homes. In most cases, this results from companies wanting to construct their business location close to Austin and therefore try to push the residents to the outsides of Austin. If you simply take a drive downtown, you will see modern and luxurious buildings being built where a home used to be. I remember that East Austin was full of homes

Texas Texas Stage Five

After reading the article by Texas Texas  over Warren's educational plan, I was able to learn a lot. I agree with Bertha on several points she sated. Throughout the article, I was able to learn about how Warren's plan was dedicated to helping impoverished kids, help racial integration into schools, and strict limits on fundings for charter schools. It was interesting to read this because I went to a charter school from 5th grade all the way through high school. Although I did not read much about charter school funding I found it interesting. I believe her statements about how children should not be separated from the rest of the kids due to them not being able to understand a particular material, to be true and socially right. I was able to relate to the feeling of being glad to be let our early during test weeks. I remember being glad I did not receive homework due to test week and that we should "study" instead when we had been studying for the exams all semester

Abortion in 2019

Currently, there has been a huge controversy regarding abortion laws in the United States in 2019. A lot of protests and marches have been occurring recently on both sides, defending abortion and fighting against it. One side argues that it is the woman's right and decision to decide whether or not to have an abortion. This creates controversy because there is a big population of US citizens that claim it is morally wrong and it is considered murder. House Bill 314, also known as the Human Life Protection Act, was passed on April 2, 2019, which banned abortions at every stage of pregnancy. This bill also criminalizes doctors who take action as well, except for a medical emergency. The bill affected many people in the US, women felt like they were being stripped away from a right they had. This matter is one we should all come together to try to fix. Hopefully, look into both sides and find a solution in which everyone is happy. Where women and couples are safe to act upon their

Democrats VS. Automation

I read an article titled, Democrats, Avoid the Robot Rabbit Hole published by Paul Krugman on Oct. 17, 2019. It was a very interesting reading, I was first expecting to disagree with Krugman, but later actually agreed with him. In the article, Krugman writes that Democrats, Andrew Yang and Bernie Sanders specifically, have been avoiding the topic of automation. Automation for those who don’t know is the use of automatic equipment in a system to manufacture goods or simply to get work done.  Krugman’s intended audience must be other republicans. The audience must also be business oriented or the working class, due to the topic being about how automation can affect the employment of US citizens. The person reading the article must be interested in what the future may look like. I believe that Krugman’s logic is that automation is not a matter to worry about and that the fact that a candidate Andrew Yang based his campaign on automation is “inadequate”.  The argument Krugman is tryi

Homophobia at Shakopee

I began reading the article titled, “TRANS BEHIND BARS: HOMOPHOBIA PERSISTS AT SHAKOPEE PRISON AFTER END TO NO-TOUCH POLICY” published on the 30th of September, 2019. The author, Adryan Corcione, writes about how in Shakopee prison there has been a lot of movement going on regarding the treatment of inmates at the prison. Corcione argues that inmates have been discriminated against based on their sexual orientation or gender expression and we should come together to make a change. There have also been several cases of inmates being denied hormone replacement therapy (HRT). A no-touch policy has also been implemented to prevent inmates from touching others. The inmates would be punished for a simple high-five.   I believe that the audience this article is intended to reach is the LGBTQ+ community and its supporters. People who are liberal and willing to help with this situation Shakopee inmates are experiencing. The reason why I say this is mean to the left party is that the LGBTQ+

Trauma on Kids From Family Separation.

I have read an article published on Daily Kos by Gabe Ortiz, published this morning September 19th, 2019. This article is titled “HHS official testifies family separation policy inflicted 'extraordinarily severe' trauma on kids”. This article is about the trauma that migrant children are experiencing due to the separation of them from their parents. This article references to several people of high status and power such as Jonathan White, commander of the department’s Public Health Service Commissioned Corps. In the article you get a clear insight of what it is a migrant child mentally suffers while being separated from their parents. Ortiz includes an example of a child who had thought his father had been taken away and killed, he was convinced the facility staff would do the same to him. I think this article is worth reading because there are a lot of people who are not aware this is going on. I believe it is a serious matter that should be focused on. I hope you can all le
